The Aurora Zoom is an electric SUV designed for individuals and families with active lifestyles, offering a bold and innovative driving experience. With personalized features like user profiles, customizable widgets, and adaptable navigation, it combines luxury and functionality to deliver an accessible, seamless interface tailored to user preferences.

Project Overview

This project was brought to us by Edenspikermann, which is a design and marketing agency with offices in Amsterdam, Berlin, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Singapore. The ask was to develop the information architecture (IA) for a multi-screen experience for their new flagship volume SUV. I was provided with a range of design requirements and screen specifications (2240 x 1260).

What is the problem?

Electric SUVs lack personalized driving experiences for their users and offer complex user experiences. The new design for the Aurora Zoom Momentum offers the user a personalized seamless user experience. This is an effort to create a luxury experience at an affordable price. This design includes personal user profiles, customizable widgets on the landing page, being able to select a dominant side for steering wheel controls, and customizable navigation.

What is the goal?

The Aurora brand is the embodiment of a daring dream, a relentless pursuit of innovation, and a firm commitment to bridging the electric mobility gap across America.  The Aurora Momentum is designed for families and individuals who lead active lifestyles and require a versatile vehicle that can keep up. They appreciate the value proposition of an EV and the additional features the mid-level variant offers. The Aurora Zoom’s experience is designed to be Bold, Innovative, Relentless and Accessible.

In this innovative design proposal for an EV SUV, information is organized to optimize user engagement. The user experience is elevated through a seamless and personalized interface, allowing drivers to effortlessly navigate through an array of features tailored to their preferences.

Key Design Decisions

  1. Customizable Widgets and Navigation Bar

This design offers the user a personalized seamless user experience which includes personal user profiles, customizable widgets on the landing page, being able to select a dominant side for steering wheel controls, and customizable navigation.

  2. User can pick a dominant side for steering wheel controls

The user will be able to select which side (Right/Left) is their dominant side in the settings. They can choose if they'd like certain features on the right or on the left side based on their preferences. This helps them easily access buttons most important to them based on what side they feel comfortable.

  3. Familiar buttons + Emergency buttons

The buttons below the screen focus on the driver and passenger temperature and fan speed. The intention behind this was to have some familiar buttons for the users as these are buttons you normally see in most cars. These buttons are smart buttons so they have an emergency button on their top right corner. The purpose of the emergency buttons is for the user to be able to access some basic features in case the screen ever malfunctioned.

Meeting User Needs

Additionally, the steering wheel also has buttons that assist the user with tasks such as Heads Up Display view, volume controls, music controls, and phone controls throughout their journey.
